Westminster High School derives its name and traditions from the English Westminster Abbey.

On September 10, 1959, Westminster High School became a reality. Because of the tremendous growth at the times in the Westminster area, a new school was needed to accommodate the rapidly growing influx of students. Located at 14325 Goldenwest Street, the school was designed to hold 3,000 students. Styled in an ultra modern architecture for the time period, the buildings featured several unusual additions including a circular library, a double outdoor swimming pool, and the largest high school gymnasium in Orange County. Today, a five-acre student farm tops the list of the notable features.

Westminster High School derives its name and traditions from the English Westminster Abbey. The school colors: red, black, and white are the colors of the Royal Guard of England. The school mascot, the lion, is the official British insignia and the student government is modeled after the Parliament of Britain. The Westminster High School House of Lords hosts student body officers including: Prime Minister, Chancellor, Minister of Records, Minister of Clubs, Minister of rallies and more.

Westminster High School is a central focus for the City. Hosting many city and districts events, along with many community health, adult education and family services, it continues to serve the city. Many city residents and staff members are graduates who have a strong sense of loyalty and commitment to the school.
