The Westminster High School Health Science Careers Academy provides academic and vocational education to students with a focus on the Health Care industry. The Academy is a school-within-a-school program with a strong family atmosphere between students and teachers.
Students enter the program in their sophomore year. The goal of the program is to make students job-ready upon graduation or to assist them in bridging the gap from high school to a community college, state college or university. There are many opportunities to see first hand what it would be like to work in the health care industry.
Core curriculum, with practical and relevant examples from health occupations is included in language arts, social studies, health and science classes. Students gain specific job skills, such as computer use, problem solving skills, group participation, speaking and listening techniques necessary for success in the workplace. Students prepare an employability portfolio to be used at their Senior Exit interview and career interviews, and are recognized at graduation as one of the Health Science Careers graduates. |
