| California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) selected Westminster High School as one of the ten schools in the state of California to receive the Gold Standard Award. The CBEE Gold Standard Award for Academic Achievement is supported and funded by California businesses and foundations, and is designed to regain California's confidence in public schools. The award creates an incentive to dramatically increase student achievement in California's public schools, and rewards public school systems that are successfully using creative, result-oriented approaches and techniques to provide better education for children. Additionally, the award demonstrates the business community's commitment to public education by rewarding those schools that deliver on the promise of education children to world class standards, preparing them for the workforce. |
The finalists were chosen through an analysis of data on the percentage of minority populations and poverty, as well as the percentage of students taking and passing 6he California State University Early Assessment Program test. Academic achievement gain on the California Standards Test, when compared to other high schools with similar student populations and schools success in reducing achievement gaps was also analyzed. Winners were selected through an interview process to explore the accuracy of the data and the practices that have led to their successes. Each of the 10 schools received two $5,000 scholarships for students of their selection to pursue studies at an accredited college or university. |
