AVID
Advancement by Individual Determination

AVID identifies underachieving, disadvantaged students in grades 6-12 and prepares them for four-year college entry.  AVID qualifying guidelines:

• Good attendance
  Willing to work hard
  Positive class attitude
  GPA between 2.5 and 3.5
  First in family to attend college
  Freshman or sophomore student
  Willing to take college preparatory courses
• Unsure about ability to attend a university, but willing to try the AVID elective class to increase chances
  

The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially students in the middle with academic potential, will succeed in a rigorous curriculum, will enter mainstream activities of the school, will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and will become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
